Fiday 19th sept Final lesson

September 20, 2008

Today i finished off my four posters not much to do just go over them with a fine tooth comb and look for minor errors…all done so on to the final submission organising my finished posters into  one file  and my fonts and development work into another then submited them .

Review of poster one see pic 1

pic 1

pic 1A very good first poster i think it is a simple design intended to show of the photograph of stonehenge which was taken in Infra red by me some time ago the subject of my posters was to be a camera which was designed to take photos in infra red so i chose a camera from fuji's range which is factory converted to do just that and thought up my campaign as if they had decided to make the camera available to the public.I took the pic of the camera from Fuji's website and used it with a bit of drop shadow placing it just at the bottom of the right hand lines of thirds.I made myself a little Logo see pic 2pic 2

As usual with this shitty blog site its buggered up my pics and put my type in the caption part of my pic ???? it seems to do this wen i press SAVE ????here is pic2 again

pic 2

Different versions of this basic Logo are used throughout my four posters

The background for this poster was chosen after reserching photographic advertisements in the photographic press (Ameteur Photographer,Digital Camera, professional Photographer, etc)Matte Black cameras against shiny black backgrounds seem to be popular, My photgraph (stonehenge & moon) allready had a black border so i just added the red line between the photograph and the border to add impact and also emphasise the RED in Infra-red,i decided to graduate the background from black to gray/silver so as to help the camera and text to stand out and allso to show the black border of the photograph. The font used was Orange LET.  this is a nice font for a subject like infra red photography as it adds a sureal air to the subject whilst still being easy to read,i allternated some red colours in the text just to keep up the RED theme as in Infra-red see pic 3
pic 3

pic 3Overall i'm quite happy with poster one.So on to poster 2 .With poster 2 i tried a differnt approach and again used some of my own photographs.both taken of the "Ring of Brdger" in the orkney islands one in colour and the other in B&W Infra-red i down sized the black and white image to fit on the back of the camera pic(borrowed from Fuji's website) iplaced the small image in infra red onto the view screen on the camera pic.see pic4pic 4

Well its done it again hasnt it eaten the pic and added the text to the pic caption of the previous pic ?????????????????????  so heres pic 4 again
pic 4

pic 4

This was added to the top of a tripod and placed in front of the colour pic of the “Ring of Brodger” to give the impresion of it being used to take the pic see pic 5
Pic 5

Pic 5

The text and my Logo were added as explained in previous blogs
Overall i think this poster works well it shows the workings of the camera and how the image will look in Infra-red there is continuaty with the Alternative light photography logo and details about the spec of the Camera see pic 6
Pic 6

Pic 6

Poster 3 .. I used poster 3 to show off my own photographs taken in Infra -red two groups of six photos were used aranged in the shape of fanned out playing cards see pic 7
pic 7

pic 7The forward facing camera from poster one was again used ensuring contiuity and allso the rearward facing camera from poster two was allso used to Balance the Logo ( a variation of the logo used in the preivious posters) in the top right of the poster.I chose the colours RDE and GREEN which are used throughout my posters becouse these colours are traditionally asossiated with FUJIFILM...one again the same font and information was used .Poster 4 was a bonus as we were only required to produce three posters but i had some time left and decided to run with the idea. Poster 4 is a mix of poster 1 and poster 3 I used the background from poster one and used the framing from poster three altering each just a little to balance the poster i once again took the oppertunity to showcase my own photographs and this time arranged them in the shape of a photographic lens's aperture IRIS and placed another version of the logo i had made in the centre of this ring placing the logo on the lines of thirds see pic8pic 8The previous themes from the text wer used to once again keep some continuity between the four posters allthough the colours were changed(whilst still useing the red and green associated with FUJI) Thhe IRIS of photographs was carfully arranged overlapping both the bottom box of Information and allso the right hand side border of green and red drop shadows were added to give depth to the IRIS of photographs, allso the camera was given a reflextion underneath it this i think has worked well .see pic9pic 9One AGAIN as i saved the page on this SHIT website if buggered up my work ??? losing the pic and putting the text into the previous pics box ??????? So hopefully here is pic 9 again pic 9

Overall i think my four Posters work well they show the product describe its specifications and also show what can be achieved with the product ,they have good visual impact and i think each one is suficiently different to each other whilst still having a comon theme .

Friday 12 sept my third poster

September 13, 2008

Today was spent building up my third poster whiich came together well and all got done in one day

the general idea was to use some of MY photos which i had taken in INFRA RED and fan then out like a deck of cards .see pic1

pic 1

pic 1

I then repeated this effect only in an upwards arc with another set of my INFRA RED photos see pic2

pic 2

pic 2

These chosen photos as you can see were carefully arranged so that the vertical components of the fan were made up of photos so they can be seen in there required orientation vertical photos vertical and horizontal photos horizontal.each fan was then saved as a jpeg so that they could be positioned on the poster as a unit, the two fans were then arranged on a red background see pic 3

pic 3

pic 3

my camera logo see pic4  was added to the poster

pic 4

pic 4

The next thing was to add text and the camera pic which were added in a white box at the bottom of the page all fonts were the same as in the other posters to keep continuity see pic 5

pic 5

pic 5

Drop shadows were added to the two fans of photographs and a second camera (showing reverse of camera with an INFRA RED photo on it ) was added see pic 6

pic 6

pic 6

The poster was then finished off with black borders and a green stripe down the right hand side (Green being the corporate colour of Fuji )see pic 7

Digital-Graphics session 01-Setting up proposal

September 11, 2008

Today i wrote my first Blog !!!!!!! this is it 🙂

Session 2 of BSS digital graphics course level 3

After my proposal was accepted 🙂 i started to design my first poster of a set of 3 ..my proposal was to do my posters to advertise a new Camera from Fujifilm ,its based on an acctual camera sold by fuji to the forensic and scientific world especially the US law enforcment agencys

the cameras in question are designed to photograph in the Infra red spectrum ….this is exceptionally usefull for the photographic artist for who Infra red photography is a wonderfull tool

i brought in some of my own pics (in Infra red ) to ilustrate the infra red effect and allso to use in the first poster

having scoured the internet to get fuji’s logos and taglines to use in the poster to make it look more authentic i downloaded what i needed so far :).

so having drawn out my basic ideas in my sketch book i proceeded with my first draft ‘s

in between working on my first draft dave showed us some basic and usefull techniques one of which i had allready used 🙂 my pfoject seems to be coming along quite well ( i think so anyway )i allso found out how to write a blog

Tuesday sept 9th

September 9, 2008

Today i spent the morning adding my final text to my first  poster this in volved making up my text in several layers so that i could resize each layer independently,i allso used different colour text for different words in particular RED to emphasize the red in “infra red “see pic 1

pic 1

pic 1

Having got the basics of my poster how i wanted it i decided to empasise the fact that the photograph used as the main photograph is in fact one of my OWN photographs and not just something downloaded from the net so i made a “photograph copyright R L Dixon” banner and added it on the side of the photograph see pic 2

Pic 3

Pic 2

i placed this banner down the top right hand side of the Photograph along the red frame line see pic 3
Pic 3

Pic 3

I did roughly the same thing to poster 2 adding the text and a copyright banner see pic 4
Pic 4

Pic 4

I then spent some time going through the layers of my posters (1&2) tidying them up a bit and named each layer including those i made but decided not to use in my final image.

Sunday sept 7th blog continued

September 7, 2008

For rsons better known to itself the system didnt post all my last blog so heres the rest of it…

the logo i produced for poster2 (see remains of last blog) did not show up well on a black background (poster 1 ) so i had to alter it somewhat  i did this by filling in the white background with red then i selected the red and inversed it  to just highligt the logo . steh i used select > modify >expand>feather   this gave me a nice red glow around my logo  i then added some type in green (green is a long time FUJI colour) the logo now stands out against a black background see pics

pic1

This now stands out on poster 1 see pic2

sunday 7th sept

September 7, 2008

today i played around with vector graphics and made myself a logo for my poster no2 i arnt too confident with the idea of forming shapes so used 4 or 5 of the preformed shapes to make up one logo see pic 1Pic 1

having formed the basics of my logo i added some type a name and a date see pic2Pic 2

sept 5th adding pics to blogs

September 6, 2008

possible logo for poster 2

now that i have managed to put pics in my blog i can show the fonts reserch which i should have put in my last blog
Fonts

Fonts

In todays (fri) we did a lot of the paperwork and admin work tto get our university cards and had a look at the facilitys we can use at the uni.
I managed some time to get my poster 2 image into some sort of a working prototype which i am maily happy with i combined some of the component parts of my idea to make up the photo of  a camera on a tripod with another of my photos placed over the rear LCD screen to give the immpresion that it was the view which the camera was seeing .(see pic)the camera was lifted from a large(ish)photo on fuji’s website and the tripod was my own tripod which i photographed and then cloned onto a new document page and then added the combined camera+ image, one i was happy with the positioning i saved as a jpeg so that i could move the camera tripod image as one unit.
this combined image was thensuperimposed onto a photo i have chosen to use i my poster.(see pic)and a couple of logos which i created were added.

Tutorials

todays tutorials were mainly on FONTS (texts and types )we covered basic font styles and were to down load new ones from the net..well worth knowing for me 🙂 as i didnt know i could have fonts other than thjose that came with the PC..we allso briefly did some work on vector graphic tools and there use for text….how to attach text to a path which we learnt how to create….

i learnt how to play about with fonts in photoshop which will be usefull.. i had the basics of this allready but now know how to change fonts and colours and size on the fly so ican resize my text and try different font styles in situe so i can evaluate there impact on my Image ..verry usefull 🙂

My posters

i played around with a few options i had been experimenting with over the weekend resizeing the camera which is part of my poster image from small to much bigger  to do this i had to find a larger image on fuji’s website which i did then cut n copied into my poster…. had a breack from poster 1 and started to do my initial idea for poster2 .. accessed my own images i brought with me from home and sorted into folders then set about compareing then before  deciding on which pair of pics to use .. made a couple of preliminary set ups  then stopped to do this blog
